Professional Assistance to Help Litigation Run Smoother

Litigation Support

Why risk possible malpractice by advising on financial issues that may not be your specialty? By partnering with us, the leading CDFA® in South Carolina, we can minimize the headaches of the financials.

Some financial concerns that may emerge with clients are:

  • One client has a pension, but you are unsure how this will impact your clients. We can assist with a marital valuation and more. Did you know - some pensions only convert to income when the employee decides to retire, not your client?

  • You feel there will be spousal maintenance, but you are contemplating how much, what type, and how long. We can assist you with understanding how different options impact your client’s future.

  • The couple owns a business, and you need creative options for handling it. You could go the traditional route, but obstacles create some uncertainty. We can help.

  • Annuities, Cryptocurrency and RSUs/stock options got you scratching your head? We take the headache out of valuing these and understanding the best ways to split these assets.

We Can Help Prep Your Clients

It isn’t your responsibility to help your client understand the impact of their current decisions on their financial future. That’s where the team at The Financial Knot can step in to help as a divorce financial planner. We empower our clients with the knowledge and resources to make sound decisions with less stress.

Here are some ways we can help your clients:

  • Financial plan for the future - We will show your client exactly how the decisions they make in their divorce will impact their future, helping them make decisions you need them to make.

  • Document gathering and organizing – We create a list of needed documents, catalog, request historical records, and track down any missing documents.

Our goal is to give you a client who is organized and ready to make decisions.

Every Situation is Different

Special Project Consulting

If your client has a special request or situation, all our services are available a la carte:

  • Alimony/Maintenance Buy-out Calculations

  • Organizing discovery requests into an electronic format for easy transmission to you and your client’s ex-spouse’s attorney

  • Combing old files/documents to ensure nothing is missed or assets were not moved without your client’s consent

  • Assistance with your client’s Financial Declaration/Affidavit

  • Pension calculations

  • 401(k) Marital Property Valuation

  • Reviewing Summary Plan Descriptions of retirement plans for information needed to assist with settlement negotiations

  • Reviewing cash flow from accounts and documents for potential fraud

  • Executive Compensation Valuation such as RSUs, Options, or Warrants

  • Lifestyle Analysis – We review your client’s assets to understand their marital standard of living and what if any adjustments need to be made to their post-divorce budget. A lifestyle analysis can assist in the following:

    • Determining need and ability to pay support

    • Searching for hidden income and assets

    • Evaluating closely held businesses for personal expenses paid with company funds

Give Your Clients the Support They Need Following Divorce

Post-Divorce Transition Assistance

Once your client’s divorce is final, their accounts must be consolidated, qualified domestic relations order (QDRO) completed, bank accounts closed, wills redone, etc. Our team has a proven process to reduce the overwhelm and ensure your client doesn’t miss anything important after the divorce, so they can begin the next phase of their life with confidence and control.

We will work with your client as long as necessary to ensure ALL of the terms of their settlement agreement are completed and they get the assets they’re entitled to.

Qualified Domestic Relations Orders

Qualified Domestic Relations Order Facilitation

After divorce, your client realizes they need to file a Qualified Domestic Relations Order. Still, they most likely won’t know how to answer the questions for the QDRO professional and neither will you (it’s not your job). We facilitate this process to ensure it gets done right the first time, avoid your order being rejected or having to start over and waste more time and money. We use a QDRO you draft or we have an experienced attorney who guarantees their work.
